'A Hung Parliament!?' - That`s the most sensible Political recommendation I`ve heard in a long time!!

Pros news

String the whole lot of them up I say!

When you consider all the posturing and canvassing for votes that the candidates do in the weeks and months leading up to the General Election, the On Screen Bickering between the various Party Leaders and the shambolic resultant mess of the outcome, British Politics has just become a parody of The X Factor!! But I`ll tell you this much, I bet Simon Cowell would do a better job of running this Country!!

Maybe Scotland would`ve had a less Tory-ble outcome if Susan Boyle had been our First Minister!? But to be fair I think Nicola Sturgeons Manifesto had always been 'I dreamed a dream of times gone by, when hope was high and life worth living...but there are dreams that cannot be, and there are storms we cannot weather. I had a dream my life would be, so different from this hell I`m living!!'

And just when you think life has 'scunnered' you lower than a badger's belly, the Scotland 'Fitba' Team decide that 2 minutes and 1 goal to the good into added time against the Auld Enemy is the ideal time to try this 'tikki takka passing football malarkey!' Where`s the good old (trademarked) Scottish 'HOOF' up the Park when you need it!?

However, for many Scotsmen, the pleasure experienced between Leigh Griffiths 2 magnificent free kicks against England would rank as the best 3 minutes of their lives...surpassing even the consummation of marriage on their wedding night!

But Harry Kane`s last gasp equalizer killed the mood quicker than a new bride shouting out the Best Man's name in ecstasy'.......sent them homeward, to gloat again!!!'

Tour news

The only thing going from higher to lower than a Scotland Fan at Full Time seems to be the grades of Rough at the US Open!

With all eyes this coming week on Erin Hills (sounds like a cheap wine from Lidl!) The new US Open venue has come in for some serious scrutiny from the Players & Media, particularly for the severity of the Rough. One rumour flying around is that the USGA had to organise a search party when the diminutive Dane, Soren Kjeldsen, went to look for his ball and was never seen again! Fortunately he managed to get a lift back to the Clubhouse when he stumbled across Tiger Woods asleep at the wheel of a Golf Buggy some 40 yards into the rough on the 6th!

Here are a couple of funny Video Links to give you an idea of what challenges the Players will face at the 2nd Major of the season.

There will be a few players going into this event with their form and confidence high after good performances last weekend. None more so than the St Jude Classic winner, Daniel Berger, who successfully defended the title he won last year. Will Dustin Johnson be able to do exactly that and add another US Open Title to his only Major thus far?

You have to go back to Curtis Strange in 1988 & 89 for the last time anyone successfully defended the US Open. There has only ever been one player to win 3 on the spin...and guess what! He was a 'Jock'!! Willie Anderson left North Berwick in 1896 aged 16 and immigrated to America. He won the 1st of 4 US Opens in 1901 before winning 3 on the bounce in 1903, 04 & 05. It was another Scot, Laurie Auchterlonie in 1902 that stopped him collecting 5 in a row!

I don`t hold out much hope of a Scottish Champion this time I`m afraid! Unless Richie 'Radar' Ramsay can pop it round between the wheat fields while everyone else is losing more balls than SNP Constituencies!!

For those of you who had a flutter in my US Open Sweepstake I have the Names & Numbers selected in the Shop so you can find out who to cheer for.

There are some notable names, and quite a few numbers, still not chosen so that is why I haven`t publicised the full list just in case anyone wants to try their luck again!?

You still have the likes of:

Phil Mickelson (If he plays!)
Jason Day
Justin Rose
Bubba Watson
Shane Lowry
Jim Furyk

Competition news

Our own Stateside-Scot was in good form and flying the flag for Portlethen last weekend.

Ben Murray, home for the Summer, won the Brangan Cup at Duff House Royal on Saturday with rounds of 69+65 = 134.

Away from home again and the Portlethen Flag was being raised on the podium at Forfar, this time for a 2nd place finish for Lewis Shand in their 36 Scratch Open.

Back on our own turf it was a quiet week for Competition Results, thanks largely to the weather! It was a case of W.W.O.W.W.O! Wednesday`s Walk On Was Washed Off!!

It got slightly better on Saturday, but only just. The Course was open and playable but the overhead conditions weren`t very pleasant but we still managed to get 152 (Laurel &) Hardy souls to venture out. It was the 1st of a 2 Round Stableford for the Belmar Trophy and leading the way at Halftime is Gary Cruickshank & Kevin Daglish on 39 Points.

Division 1
1 Gary Cruickshank (7) 39 Points
2 Kevin Daglish (1) 39 Points
3 Graham Smith (7) 38 Points

Division 2
1 William Daniel (12) 38 Points
2 Alejandro Correa (12) 37 Points
3 James Douglas (14) 37 Points

Division 3
1 William Brechin (22) 38 Points
2 Mark Clubb (18) 36 Points
3 Scott Marshall (22) 35 Points

There was no Sunday Medal this week. Instead it was the Greensomes Trophy. The entry was small but the competition was fierce.

In the end it came down to only 0.5 of a stroke with Scott & Lewis Sinclair (66) edging out Alex Handsley & Jake Legge (66.5).

Saturday also brought some Cappro Cup Points as this was the event that replaced the Cancelled Club Championship Rd1 a few Saturdays ago. With only 4 Qualifiers played and 6 more still to come there is more than enough time and Points up for grabs that anyone who previously hadn`t signed up to the Qualifying Race can still join and make some headway in the Standings. We had one new addition this week and he collected 10 Points to get off to a flier!

It`s only £5 to enter and it all builds up to the climax of the Ryder Cup Style Match on Saturday, 7 & Sunday, 8 October.

Club news

It seems that the BRS Email Delivery System let us down last week when we tried to inform/remind you all that Online Booking for next week`s Anniversary Day (Saturday, 24 June) would go 'LIVE' at 7pm on Sunday, 11 June. However it seems only about half the emails got delivered. So, incase you haven`t tried already - BOOKING FOR ANNIVERSARY DAY IS 'LIVE' AND AVAILABLE TO BOOK NOW!

Junior Development Coaching
Last Saturday the Junior Development Gang ran smoothly and had similar numbers to last week's 30 kids attending from 2 - 4pm for some coaching and golf related activities. This week the coaching theme was balance! So as a drill the kids had to hold their wonderful finish position for 5 seconds for the paparazzi - weight onto lead foot, tummy and chest facing the target. This little drill really worked wonders for the kids as they really concentrate on their balance and in turn get a more efficient strike! Check out some of the beautiful finish positions!

Junior Summer Camp
Just to let everyone know that we are running a clubgolf junior summer camp again this year. This will include coaching, golf related games & activities, course management and a team tournament at the end of the week. The camp will run Monday - Friday from 10am - 2pm starting the 10th of July.

Cost - £50

Maximum of 16 places are available. Anyone interested in getting their kid signed up to this please email me at kamranzeno1992@yahoo.co.uk or see me in the pro shop.

Competition Results - Junior Borland Bogey
Unfortunately we only had 5 juniors playing in the medal on Saturday, I think the rest must have been at the Scotland v England game! Nevertheless, the kids got the best of the day as the rain showers had passed but they still had a bit of a breeze to deal with. Lewis Sinclair scooped the Borland Bogey with a fine round of nett 68 and got cut to 13 handicap exactly for his efforts!

Results:
Winner - Lewis Sinclair - 83(14) - 68
Runner up - Ritchie Smart - 93(18) - 75

My Golf
As some of you will know I was away at Lossiemouth last week, playing at Moray Golf Club in the Northern Open - well I was trying to play but the weather had other ideas! Tuesday was the first round and it rained heavy all day just as it did back here. I managed to battle through in the wind and rain but the last 6 holes finished me off with a couple of high numbers. The play for the next round kept getting delayed and eventually there was a two tee start and the first groups went out at 2pm. The rain had stopped by then and it turned out quite a nice day. I played okay in the 2nd round but needed a pretty low number to make the cut as the damage was done the day before. Shame about the weather but it's the same for everyone and it's just down to who manages best in the wet and windy conditions.

Here's a video of  what it was like on the morning of the second round!

And we think Portlethen is breezy!

This week on Tuesday you might have seen me out playing early in a fourball. This was in a PGA fourball tournament where me and my partner were the home players hence we were playing at Portlethen.

My partner was Patrick from the Paul Lawrie golf centre at Inchmarlo who I used to work with and our opponents were Greg McBain from Newmachar and Kris Nicol from the Dunes Golf Centre in Fraserburgh. Fair to say we probably got one of the strongest teams in the event for the first round and that proved as we were 2 down after 4! We settled down and kept in the match, halving holes with birdies, we couldn't do much more at times! We were then 3 down with 3 to play and I chipped in from 50 yards to go down the 17th. The 17th was like a comedy movie as they had both hit their drives in the rough and we were down the middle. And neither of us hit the green! I was in the bunker long left from where I hit the pin but the ball ended up 8ft away. I had that putt to take it down the last and lipped out!

In the end it was a really good match but disappointed not to at least have taken the top guns down the last hole!
