Someone who definitely needs to 'Get a Grip' is Kevin Na! The man who was named following these two questions from his mother’s Doctor at the Birth. Do you know what you're going to call your baby? and are you ready to push? To be fair she could've been pushing all she wanted, I'm sure Kevin would've been just having another couple of looks to make sure he had the right line!! Yip, the old chestnut of 'Unnecessary Slow Play' was evident again over the weekend on the PGA Tour. So it begs the question...What's slower? Kevin Na, JB Holmes or an overweight Snail trying to sprint through quick drying cement!? Despite all that it was a welcome return to the winners circle for Bubba Watson, although with his trademark floods of tears on winning we might need to start referring to him as Blubber Watson! Quite apt that following a poor Season where he actually contemplated Retiring from the game for one reason or another that it was the Genesis Open where he returned from 'The Land Of Confusion' to find that 'Invisible Touch' and 'Turn It On Again'. Perhaps the most significant 'change' Bubba made on his road to recovery was reverting back to a tried and trusted golf ball. He chose to play the Titleist Pro V1x Ball again having been lured away by the bright lights of the Volvik Golfing Gobstoppers! Those horrendous florescent pink, lime or orange balls that hit the market. Perhaps a fun and fairly good ball for a Club Golfer to spray and play, but when it's your career and livelihood at stake then perhaps not!? It's a bit like Chris Hoy clipping the King Of Clubs into his spokes using a Clothes Peg so his bicycle sounds like a motorbike!! So the important message here is, play a ball you like, that suits your game, and is one that you know how it is going to react to the shots that you play.
Over in Europe the big headline for us here at Portlethen was the story of the Member who left the Club A Boy and turned into Oman!!
