What`s Black & Blue and Reed all over!? |
Now that the Augusta dusta has settled on the 1st of 2018`s Golf Majors we can reflect on what was another terrific US Masters. So let`s get the obvious out the way, great victory for Patrick Reed! Certainly not my favourite Player, in fact I don`t think he`s even the most popular player in his own hoose! But credit and respect/recognition of a commendable performance from a fellow Golfer, he thoroughly deserved that title! There`s a massive difference between chasing a Title and defending a Lead! But I just wanted to take a look back at some of the other note-worthy things we learned during ‘Masters Week’ Firstly, they obviously had to borrow Craig Stadler`s Green Jacket for the ceremony! Secondly, we now know Sergio can produce more spin than Teresa May`s propagandist! Still at least he made buffer on Stableford Scoring!!
|
We also now know that Tony Finua is clearly made of Lego......or rubber!! That Par 3 Tournament also showed us that Tom Watson is still just an AWESOME Golfer, and Jack Nicklaus, despite being the most decorated Golfer ever, is still just the same blubbering jellyfish at heart that any proud and emotional Grandad would be when watching one of their Grandkids achieve something magical! (Jack`s Grandson, GT`s Hole In One was definitely my favourite Masters moment from this Year!) |
|
The final Legend of that 3 Ball, Gary Player, reminded us that he is still clearly quite jealous of what Modern Day Professionals earn these days!! If only he had a Dollar for every Sit-Up he still does in the Gym!! On a similar vein we also learned that Tiger is still THE biggest draw in the game of golf with Tickets, which remember are more scarce than winning a trip to Willy Wonka`s Chocolate Factory, were changing hands at nearly $8000! Which was double that of similar exchanges in previous years! All to try and get a glimpse of Tiger making his Masters comeback! It wasn`t vintage Tiger, but he didn`t do too badly! In fact the ‘Old Guard’ put on a good show in general. Freddy Couples managed all 4 rounds despite having a spine in as good a nick as Tony Finua`s ankle. For me the only thing that made me wince more than the slow motion re-runs of Tony twisting then re-popping his ankle was watching Sandy Lyle putt!! Not that it was bad, he actually tied the fewest amount of putts after 36 holes with Patrick Reed and only missed the cut by 1 stroke, but it was the fact that he was wielding something not dissimilar to my grannies old Carpet Sweeper to do it!! Perhaps young Rory McIlroy might be considering using one after his last round performance, where again he showed that his confidence and putting prowess are as fragile as a Rizzla Paper in the rain!! His long game didn`t help him either with his opening Tee Shot in the final round being so ‘Far Right’ that apparently it was only stopped from going Out of Bounds when it rebounded back off a giant swastika! Maybe he got confused when some suggested he take the ‘Conservative’ approach!? So here`s a question, and speaking of ‘in the Augusta crowds’, if I were to ridicule what they call the spectators at the Masters would that be patronising patronizing? I`m actually not going to ridicule anything that Augusta or the Masters Committee do, because quite frankly it`s an incredible Tournament they run and it always gets me thinking (in fact, I think I`ve mentioned this in previous years) but do you think Golf should do to its Major Grand Slam events what Tennis has done with theirs? In that they have 4 very different events and challenges (Hardcourt, Clay, Grass) but held annually at different times of the year at the same iconic venues! Augusta is the only venue that hosts a Major every year, the Players know the Challenge, the Crowds know what to expect but are never disappointed and typically always treated to a memorable spectacle, and the Event, when you add in the Par 3 Tournament, Junior Drive, Chip, Putt Competition, Champions Dinner and Honorary Starters, has become something very special. Do you think that would work with our Open Championship, the US Open and their PGA Championship if they returned every year to the same venue!? Or is it a good thing to have these Championships on a Major Course Rota? For instance would it be good if Pebble Beach became the home of the US Open, St Andrews the permanent venue for the Open Championship and say Pinehurst for the USPGA? Could you make more of a special event that way? Would that be better than taking Grand Slam Tournaments to built-from-scratch venues with no history like Chambers Bay & Erin Hills? Would Tennis ever dream of moving one of their Big 4 to a newly built venue? Does any Golfer in this generation or past grow up dreaming of winning the US Open at Chambers Bay or rather slipping on the Green Jacket at Augusta!? Or are they just delighted to get their hands on one? I`m sure though that if you ask any Tour Player if they could choose where they could win an Open Championship I`d bet they`d virtually all say ‘The Old Course’!? Be interesting to hear your thoughts.

Something that I thought I`d never hear was the statement ‘Russell Prosser Wins The Masters!’, but last weekend that is exactly what happened courtesy of his inspired (ahem…flukey!) pick in my Masters Sweepstake! So Russell has Patrick Reed`s great play (Winner & Low 2nd Round) to thank for his £115 windfall! You can check out all the Winners by clicking here.
If you didn`t know already and are curious we still have the Name/Player List in the Shop.

ISP - ‘I Support’ Program |
Shop Credit brings me nicely to the latest update on my ‘You scratch my back – I`ll scratch yours!’ Points Program We have received the ‘ISP’ Poker Chip Membership Markers and all the I.T. glitches seem to have been ironed out so, fingers crossed, we are ‘GOOD TO GO’ I will also be sending out a specific ‘ISP’ Launch email to ensure all Members know about the initiative, but in the meantime I`d like to remind you of how the Program will work.
Here is a reminder of how the ISP will work:
|
|
• To become an ‘I Support’ Partner all you need to do is Invest £100 into your Shop Account (This can be done as part of your first purchase) • With that you will receive a Special ‘ISP’ Poker Chip Marker declaring you an ‘I Support’ Partner, 200 ISP Points and the choice of 1 of the following (FREE Custom Fit/Club Analysis Session – FREE Yardage Gapping Session – FREE 30 Minute Lesson) • Thereafter, for every Full Ticket Price Purchase you make you will accumulate 2 Points for every Pound (You will receive 1 Point for any ‘Shop Reduced’ Ticket Price Purchase – *Manufacturer Promotions will qualify for as ‘Full Ticket Price’) • Once you accumulate 1000 ISP Points you will be entitled to one of the following rewards: A 45 Minute Golf Lesson - £25 Shop Credit – 1 Dozen Balls of Your Choice – HALF PRICE Re-Gripping. • ISP Points accumulated over 1000 can be ‘Cashed In’ at any time for the equivalent of 2.5p Per Point (aka 5p for every 2 Points!) in Shop Credit. • There will be ‘Exclusive’ ISP Promotions available to only ISP Partners where you will receive extra Points. Here is an example: £100 to Sign Up = 200 Points + Introductory Session of your Choice. First Purchase is New Irons @ £700 - £100 Shop Credit = £600 = 1200 Points + Initial 200 Points = 1400 Points. This person can now either ‘Cash In’ and claim £35 in Shop Credit (1400 x 2.5p) or A 45 Minute Golf Lesson - 1 Dozen Balls of Your Choice – HALF PRICE Re-Gripping. Points are then Zero`d and you start accumulating again. If you can say ‘I Support’ my Professional – then ‘I Support’ you back! All ISP Partners Accounts will be highlighted to track the Point Accumulation so it is important to note that if you are on the Loyalty Scheme and want any transactions to count towards your Point Total that you make whoever is serving you aware that you would like that sale against your account, for instance small purchase like Tees, Drinks, Confectionary, Hire Items, etc. |
Hopefully the ISP initiative is something you will want to get involved with because right now I truly believe we have created a fantastic, albeit constrained by the limitations of the facility, Retail & Golf Performance environment! I`d go as far as to say, from what I`ve seen, the best ‘On Course’ retail proposition in the area. You can probably tell by now that I`m very ‘Shop Proud’ and I`m constantly juggling the layout. Right now I`m the happiest I`ve been with the layout and more importantly the Product content. PLUS, it`s bursting with first class service and value added promotions. For instance, we have much of the Apparel Scripting you saw the Players showcasing at the Masters last week. Dustin & Sergio were wearing garments from the adidas Clothing Range we have In Store, while Jordan Spieth was donning a good few pieces from our Under Armour Collection. |
Right now I`m offering you the chance to freshen up your Golfing Wardrobe with my: Buy 2 Items Get a Third at HALF PRICE!* (*Includes Trousers - All Garments MUST be the Same Size/For the Same Customer) |
One of the other areas where we are offering incredible value is in our Trolley Department. On our Motocaddy Range we have great deals on: - Motocaddy M Series Lithium Powered Trolley from ONLY £499 Plus FREE Travel Cover & Umbrella Holder! - £25 OFF any Motocaddy or LitePower Lithium Battery!
|
|
Motocaddy have also introduce 2 new Push Trollies to their Range. The P1: Lightweight with a simple one-step folding mechanism means the trolley is ready for use in seconds. All this for ONLY £129!
|

When you add in our comprehensive Shoe Selection with Fitting Service, our Custom Fitted Equipment Wall (Woods, Irons, Wedges & Putters), our Portlethen Crested Collection (Clothing & Accessories) plus a vast variety of Balls, Gloves and Essentials (Plus not forgetting the good old Coffee Machine, Fridge and Edibles!) then you really have a ‘Super-Store’ right on your doorstep! |
| My Stu-Per Store |
|
On the subject of Superstores another thing that was hard to miss during last week`s Masters Coverage was the aggressive promotion of a certain ‘Big Box’ retailers ‘DOUBLE TRADE IN’ Offer! Can I just take this opportunity, having already tried to showcase the virtues of what my independent Store can provide for you, my Members, that I caution you on what, at face value, seems an unmissable opportunity. This ‘Double Trade In’ WILL NOT guarantee you twice the value of your equipment! FACT! The ‘expertise’ on offer at the Custom Fit is unlikely to be from anyone with Qualified PGA knowledge (Technique & Technology, because one heavily influences the other)…I have over 25 Years’ experience in both areas, the best measuring Technology on the Market AND…absolutely no Commission Based Pressure to sell you anything! These companies have huge stores full of Standard Stock Products, if you get ‘Custom Fitted’ and can walk out of a store the same day with that product, I`d challenge whether you`ve been fitted for equipment that suits their needs more than yours!! So before you read the competitors ‘Double Trade In’ T`s & C`s let me just remind you that we offer: • An honest, transparent FULL Valuation Trade In Facility • A FREE Custom Fit Session packed with the latest Analysis Technology, PGA expertise & knowledge and integrity. • Competitive Prices – (Many of my Equipment Prices are LOWER than AG!) • Gapping or Equipment Check Sessions • Pre & Post Fitting Service Click Here to view all the T`s & C`s for the American Golf DTI But I`ve picked out the important ones for you. • The trade-in price is calculated using a fixed exchange rate of $1.50 to £1 and then doubled. For example a product valued at $150 on https://valueguide.pga.com/trade-in/ would have an AG DVTI promotion trade in price of £200 ($150 divided by $1.50 to £1.00 is £100 and then doubled to £200) (I`ll give you a good recent example: I took a TaylorMade M2 2016 Driver in as a Trade In Recently – Using the same Valuation Model as AG that would have worked out as $72 or £50 x 2 = £100. Guess what the SINGLE Trade In Value I received off of Golfbidder was? Yip, £100!) • Single wedges are excluded from the Double Value Trade-In promotion and cannot be traded in (I accept Multiple Trade-In`s) • Trade-in is against new clubs only, trade-in is not against any pre-owned clubs, ex-demo clubs or any non-club products (I`ll accept Trade-In`s against any Hardwear) • Any non-excluded club can be traded-in, subject to condition, against any new club on sale at American Golf stores, subject to stock and availability, provided the trade-in and purchased items are within the same category. For example, you can trade in a wood against a wood (hybrids will be classed as a wood), putter against a putter and a set of matching irons (minimum of 6 clubs) against a set of irons (I`ll accept ANY Trade In against ANY Hardwear) So, who would you rather see survive, let alone thrive? The Loyalty Scheme, many Promotions & Initiatives, service levels and events are hopefully proof I`m here for you…I cling to the belief that you will be here for me too!?

Golf can be a frustrating game at the best of times, but incurring a penalty stroke when you’ve accidentally done something wrong seems very unfair, especially when that one stroke could be the difference between getting a handicap cut or not. |
| Current Rules Under the current Rules of Golf, if you accidentally nudge your ball while addressing it you incur a one-stroke penalty and must replace it (18-2). The only exception relates to if it is accidentally moved in the process of marking it. In this case, it must be replaced and there is no penalty (20-1). New Rules from 2019 The new proposed rule (13.1c) states there will no longer be a penalty for accidentally causing your ball to move on the green and you must replace it on its original spot. |
