Maybe it's a reflection on today's society but it seems lots of people actually rate 4 to 1 in order of importance!!! One thing is for sure though, regardless whether it's the Political Landscape, the Standard of Football or the Climate, it all makes for pretty grim viewing just now! Good job we've got a sense of humour!!

It was comforting in a sadistic sort of way when I tuned into coverage of the Spanish Open to see the players wrapped up in Woolly Hats and Winter Mitts whilst playing in 'Sunny' Spain! It didn't stop Home Favourite, Jon Rahm turning up the heat in the final round when his closing 5 Under Par 67 saw him leapfrog overnight leader, Paul Dunne, to take top spot and the adulation from the local supporters! In very John Daly-esque ‘Grip-It-And-Rip-It’ style Jon was very quick to lay praise on his Driving Performance, much better than Ant McPartlin's anyway, as the key to his success last week. In the Stat Category he called 'Strokes Gained From The Tee' his Tee Shots, many of which he referred to as 'Bombs', but not those on a Syrian destination, gave him the opportunity to fire at pins with shorter clubs. So whilst the old adage is 'Drive For Show....and Putt For Dough!', Jon was able to 'Go For The Dough' because his Drives had given him that opportunity!

Rahm-Man is of course one of the many Players currently using the new TaylorMade M-Series featuring their ‘Twist Face’ Technology which have racked up 8 Worldwide Tour Wins so far this Season. The main aim of this Technology is to help you hit more Fairways courtesy of its ‘Curve-Reducing’. |
Perhaps interestingly for you guys is that Jon Rahm has chosen the M4 Head Model as his preferred Driver choice. This is the less expensive Model retailing at £329, which proves there is every bit as much ‘Performance’ in this Model as there is in the M3, however there just isn`t as much ‘Fine Tuning’ Adjustability when it comes to Fitting to the most suitable Specification for an individual.
|
|
Perhaps a reaction to the huge success that TaylorMade have had with their M2 2016 & 2017 Models and now the 2018 M4 at that £329 Price Point Callaway have just launched their latest upgrade to their XR Series. Much like the aforementioned TaylorMade Models, Callaway had a Good Performing/Mid Price Point Driver in the XR & XR16, but they potentially didn`t have the ‘Desirability’ or ‘Want One’ Look of the M2`s & 4`s.
So now Callaway have launched their XR Speed Driver. The nuts & bolts of which you can check out in this short video. |
But in short they are claiming this Driver is LONG! This is their first Mid Price-Point Driver that features a part Carbon Crown like they currently use in the Rogue & EPIC. This lighter section allows better use of that weight saving. Unlike Rogue & EPIC it doesn`t feature their ‘Jailbreak’ Face Technology but they have upgraded the X-Face with VFT (Variable Face Technology) This variable thickness across the Clubface allows for better/more consistent Ball Speeds from Off-Centre Strikes. |

This week`s TPI I’d like you to try the ‘Cervical Rotation Test’. It`s a lot more simpler than the name may suggest. Basically stand tall, feet together. Keeping your mouth closed throughout the test, turn your head to the right and then downwards to your shoulder. Your chin should be able to touch your collar bone. Now repeat on the other side. Try to keep your shoulders as level as possible and remember, no pain. What has this to do with golf? Well next time you see Rory McIlroy hit a golf ball have a look at how he is showing pretty good cervical rotation. |
Well it`s been a busy few weeks during the holidays with the children Easter Camp and despite the poor weather over the two weeks the kids were still keen to come along so a big thank you to everyone who came and a thank you to the parents, grand- parent`s, etc for taking them along. Also a thank you to Terry, his dedication towards Junior Golf at the club is fantastic.
|
During the first week of the camp the juniors and a last minute substitution from myself played against some of our lady members which is a great experience for our youngsters getting a taste of competition golf. Again, thanks to our ladies for playing and helping where possible.
|
Onto the second week and again the weather hadn’t improved but we made the most of it, getting on the course when possible and playing golf related games in a fun and learning environment.
Last Saturday, 14th April was the first of The Porty ‘Get Golfing’ Development Gang. An astonishing 41(!!!) children attended over the 2 hours, many of whom it was their first experience of swinging a club. Let’s hope they continue to come along for the remaining 25 weeks. |
|
Back to the big kids for now, and we actually got quite lucky in and out of some more poor weather to get all 3 Gents Competitions played. It was obviously a great weekend for Scott Brown. Not only did he win his Division on Saturday but he also bossed the Midfield on the way to trouncing Rangers at Hampden on the Sunday too!! What a player! The ‘Any Tee’ Medal format is proving popular on Sundays with 68 Gents, Ladies & Juniors taking part. It was probably helped by the fact it was a fabulous day. If participation continues to increase then we will look at the best way to structure the Sweep Divisions. Sunday 15th Any Tee Medal Mixed Division 1 1 James Harper 77 (11/14) 63 White Tees 2 William Bothwell 73 (10/10) 63 Yellow Tees 3 Calum Yule 90(21/24) 66 White Tees A point of note for this Saturdays Competition. It is the Qualifying Round for the CR Associates Matchplay with the top 64 Nett Scores Qualifying for the Knockout Stages, so what we need to know before the ‘Seeded Draw’ (1 plays 64, etc) is whether you want to be included in the Matchplay Stages. Therefore on Saturday you will be required to ‘Tick a Box’ stating that you WILL be available.

Well, it`s actually 2 more things! Firstly, you may still be reading this Newsletter with a BIG RED ACTION BOX at the top of the page!? If you do that is a prompt to encourage you to make some very quick and simple adjustments to your Database Profile. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE trust me when I say this is nothing more than me trying to make this Communication Service that I provide to you BETTER! The few extra Details/Information that I am looking for from you is so that this Communication and this Communication only can become more suitable and personal to you. None of the details asked for will be used by any other source……I`m not Mark Zuckerberg….trust me, just ask my Bank Manager!!
|
Which brings me nicely to the second point! My Bank Manager might be asking me a question soon because SIX MONTHS after they have gone out of circulation our Phantom Old Pound Coin-man has returned and I found another out of use £1 Coin in the Coffee Machine from last week`s takings! We also had someone use an OLD TEN POUND NOTE! Please stop……or I`ll get Liam Neeson on to you!!! Both of these are not valid in Shops anymore…….why do you think mine is any different!? |

Consider a smart new look |
As it seems to do every year, the Masters has ignited the season and prompted many of you to dust off your clubs and take to the course. If this is you and you haven't been in the shop recently, make sure you come and take a look around as we have some fantastic new products sitting on the shelves, including our club crested range of apparel. This Glenmuir Hatfield polo is a great option as it combines a modern look with subtle detail to create a really stylish shirt. It's made from high-performance stretch fabric that is manufactured to work with your swing; a huge benefit of buying golf-specific clothing from us rather than a cheap polo from the high street. |
