Glenmuir Ryder Cup FanwearSrixon 4 for 3 on AD333 - £19.99

Greetings from Stuart Wilson
Eastwood Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

Flicking through the TV channels on Monday night I wasn`t sure what I`d stumbled upon. It was these oddly freakish looking people, who are only fleetingly famous and even less popular, slumped over podiums driveling the biggest load of nonsense while other people just sat and watched them! You could have mistaken it for a Spitting Image sketch or something from the Thunderbirds! Now I know some of you are probably think I`m about to bang on about the Independence debate between Darling and Honeybunch, I mean Salmond! Whilst others are probably thinking I`m actually talking about Celebrity Big Brother, but the reality is I`m talking about both!

For me the funniest thing is these two adventures have so many parallels but in terms of both seriousness and purpose couldn`t be further apart! Firstly, the end game - To make the people like you enough so they hope you win. Secondly, the tactics - Say whatever you think will help that happen even if it occasionally comes out as a lie! Thirdly, the vehicle - Use TV to show you bicker and squabble in the hope that the public will hate the others more than you, and if you shout over someone else is trying to speak enough then perhaps their point, however valid, wont be heard!

I not sure what was worse to watch, Al & Eck`s "Ma Da`s bigger than your Da" debate on the Beeb or Channel 5`s CBB (Celebrity Big Brother) or as I think it should be abbreviated CSGB (Cosmetic Surgery Gone Bad) Honestly, these "Celebrities" were barely recognizable as celebrities at all, but they`ve had so much work done that you struggle to recognize them as human beings!!! Audley Harrison is the only one that looks remotely normal and he gets punched in the face (a lot) for a living!! The definition of "Cosmetic" is - treatment intended to restore or improve a persons face! This crowd must be some of Jim Hensons early attempts at the puppets from the Labyrinth then?

As for the Referendum, my question is if we are going to have these live Television campaigns surely we need someone who will Referee`dem!? An even bigger worry perhaps is that in the melee and kerfuffle that the clamour for Independence has created, the voting public get as confused as I did watching both the afore mentioned programs and we end up voting for Frank Maloney to be the next Queen of Scotland!!?

Right now though all eyes are firmly on the attempts of our great Scottish hope to be crowned the King of Italy! Yes, as the biggest day in Scotland`s modern history approaches so too does D-Day in the Race To The Ryder Cup. With 8 of the 9 Automatic spaces on Captain McGinley`s Team pretty much nailed on the only precarious position is the final spot on the World Ranking Points list. Although currently occupied by Graeme McDowell that spot can be claimed by Stephen Gallacher if the boy from Bathgate can either win or finish in outright second in this weeks Italian Open. So I`m sure he`s looking forward to getting a Pizza the action and wouldn`t mind a slice of luck either. Lets hope he`ll Cannelloni putts so he can Focaccia McDowell and Spaghetti that last spot!

If we rewind to 2010 it was an Italian (Eduardo Molinari) who won in Scotland to claim his place on the Team so it can be done and no one deserves it more than Stephen as he has had such a wonderfully consistent season.

3 other people heading to the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles in a few weeks are those who were the lucky ones picked out of the 25 who supported my RYDER CUP PRIZE DRAW. As you may remember I was offering 3 Winners an All Expenses day out at Gleneagles for the Ryder Cup Practice Days, including the Opening Ceremony on Thursday. The Video below reveals who the lucky trio were!!

The second most important golfing Team Match is now also entering it`s final qualifying event (September Medal - Sat 6th Sept)! I`m of course talking about the Cappro Cup! Saturday past was week 8 of the 9 Tournament Qualifying and following the Autumn Meeting the standings now look like this!

There was a little bit of movement in the Automatic spots courtesy of the results of that Autumn Meeting. The weather was kind although the wind was quite strong for the most part.

In Division 1 our new M&H Convenor, Kevin McAllister 73(5) - 68 finally worked out how to doctor the results to get himself to the top of the leader board! His score was good enough on the countback to edge out Doug Buchan 74(6) - 68 with Gordon Cumming 76(7) - 69 in 3rd. However taking advantage of the fact that Gordon wasn`t in the Sweep was 4th placed Frank Taggart 73(3) - 70 who also tied Kevin for lowest Gross score too.

David Dougan 78(13) - 65 was the low score of the day but only on the countback from Paul Deuchar 79(14) - 65, while Allan Smith 84(16) - 68 took 3rd. Div 3 also had to be settled on a back 9 countback with jim McGuire 89(21) - 68 coming out on top in the numerical tussle over Stuart Boyd 85(17) - 68. Ronnie Waddell 88(18) - 70 didn`t dawdle to make sure he had a profitable day in 3rd.

It wasn`t just the Strokeplay competitions that were making the headlines this week. As the season draws nearer its conclusion many of the Knockout Tournaments also reach a climax.

In the Bronze Final it was a multiple winner!

Maureen McLaren picked up back to back wins, retaining her Title this year with a win over Veronique Ford in another well fought match.

In the Ladies Section the Club & Bronze Champions were crowned. In the top final Beth Paterson took on Cathy Morton. In a closely fought match played in a tremendous spirit which was also blessed with great weather and enthusiastic spectators.

But with all finales there had to be a winner and it was experience that came through in the end with Beth Paterson claiming her TENTH Championship win. Well done!

In the Senior section the Vets Knockout Greensomes had also reached the Final Stage.

This years quartet saw Douglas Miller & Tom Naismith go up against Bill Greenock & Dan Davidson with the victory going the way of Douglas & Tom.

Congratulations to both pairs for reaching the final and competing in a great match.

The Juniors got in on the Final countdown (you could almost hear the music start up there!!) and it was their turn to complete the Club Champions list. In the final were 2 previous winners in Andrew Crusher & Michael Leach. Their final might go down as one of the longest in history despite it only being played over 36 holes! The reason for that accolade was they started the final 3 weeks previous and were washed out and forced to suspend play whilst on the 17th hole in the first round. Scheduling and previous commitments meant that last Friday was the first and most suitable time the boys could get back together.

When the rain had forced an early halftime young Andrew held a commanding 4Up lead. However as they resumed the match Michael slowly and effectively chipped away at that heft advantage. With only 9 holes remaining the match was square.

Andrew manage to sneak his nose back in front and it was nip & tuck all the way. Michael threw everything he had at Andrew including a holed bunker shot at the 16th however Andrew showed his metal by following him in for a half in birdie 3`s which kept his 1 hole lead. He managed to hold on to that all the way to the 36th where he closed the match out to win his 2nd Junior Championship.

There will be some juicy Vouchers coming the way of those guys at the end of season Prizegivings. But perhaps you guys already have some money burning a hole in your pocket or Shop Account? Well now I`ve just increased it in value for you!

Srixon Z-Star golf balls

Excess backspin robs your drives of distance. To lower your spin-rate, tee the ball higher. It promotes a level-to-up attack that brings your rpm down. But also choose a smart ball like Srixon’s Z-Star; its clever variable-firmness core mutes driver backspin, helping your drives soar.
