RIGHT!! Who was it!!? Come on, own up! I know it was one of you because I overheard it being said! 'We could do with some rain!'.......oh, and I'll throw in 'It's just a bit too hot!' for good measure as well!! What was your third wish because the Genie has definitely granted your first two!!

Either that or you ordered your new Garden Sprinkler from the wrong Amazon!? Yes, it looks like the Sizzling Summer Bubble has well and truly burst...right over our heads having been hit by some of that scary thunder & lightening we got last Friday!
A friend told me they had been struck by lightning, I jokingly said 'was it Thor!?' And they said 'yeah it really hurt!'...come on, you've got to Marvel at that joke! No!? Alright I'll try and keep it more Loki from now on.
Moving swiftly on, if the shift in weather wasn't sign enough that normal service has resumed in the world then the wondrous news that Love Island is finally finished surely means civilisation can awaken from the 'codswallop coma' they've been living in for the past couple of months. So I`ll quickly fill you in. England didn`t win the World Cup but are now safely home. Tiger didn`t win The Open but gave it a good go. Trump met with our PM, Kim Jong Un and Vladimir Putin and nobody died!
Other than that they've not really missed much, and when they find out that in our own 'Love (This) Island' saga that having been dumped by Bad Boy Boris, Theresa May made the usual rebound mistake and just hooked up with the first person that showed her any attention! All her friends reckon she's made a right...NO! I'm not going to stoop to any Jeremy Hunt jokes!!

Speaking of bad decisions I see that Bryson DeShampoo has seen the error of his ways after he lost his 'Head & Shoulders' over the final few holes in the European Open. The 'Scientist' is finding out the hard way that Golf isn't a simple, easy to solve, once you've found the answer that's it, equation and its slowly turning him mad!
Don`t believe me? Check it out by clicking here!!

So much so that it let it affect him so much over those closing holes that he couldn't even acknowledge properly the achievement of playing Partner, Richard McEvoy - a Journeyman Professional, who after 17 years as a Tour Professional had just captured his first ever European Tour win. Over in 'Canadia' a man who is more than used to winning got back to doing just that. Dustin Johnson scooped the Canadian Open a Glenn Abbey a week after crashing out of The Open Championship at the halfway stage. What I'd say is it proved is that Dustin's game is geared up entirely for that style of golf where he can bomb the driver into wide receptive fairways, which gives him many wedges and short iron shots that he can also hit 'by the number'. The guile, craft, imagination, feel and, dare I say, patience to play 'attack AND defend' golf that's required to win on an Open Championship Links Course just isn't something Dustin has in his locker yet. The question being, is he willing to learn it!? Maybe by the time he hits the Champions Tour he`ll have learned how to cope with lay of the links land! And wasn`t it apt that the most Scottish sounding Spaniard, Jimmy Ness, won the Seniors Open Championship at the Home Of Golf! I`m pretty sure that Trophy will now be affectionately referred to as ‘The Rioja Jug’….or maybe it will just be an ashtray for his stoggies!?

The game of golf driving us mad to the point of breakdown and a determination to not let it beat us is unquestionably the theme of this week`s Success Story. On Friday of last week I was visited by what I can only describe as a man at the end of his golfing tether! Phrases like ‘Not enjoying it!’, ‘Wondering why I even bother playing at all never mind in Medals!’, ‘Just scunnered with it!’ are never ones I want to hear from any of my Members.
One Lesson (in which we worked extremely hard, and whilst the end result wasn`t perfect we clearly laid some worthwhile foundations for future slow and steady improvement) and less than 24 Hours later, having played in some of the worst weather conditions we have had in a long time, and the gentleman in question is now the Golf Plus Quaich Champion and has a playing Handicap TWO strokes lower than the one he was contemplating giving up!! |

Golf jargon can be confusing. Take drivers for example; why is there a 460cc limit set by golf's governing bodies and what does this actually mean? |
Why is driver head size limited? Driver heads are measured in volume and are limited to 460 cubic centimetres (cc). This limit is enforced to stop technology diminishing the skill level needed to play well off the tee. What are the benefits of larger heads? Playing a 460cc driver, like the Titleist 917 D2, gives you the biggest head possible, which means you can miss the middle of the face now and then and still hit a good shot because they tend to be extremely forgiving. What about smaller heads? Smaller heads, like the 440cc Titleist 917 D3, create less drag as they move through the air, so should give you faster swing speeds, which translate to faster ball speeds and more distance, but are a little less forgiving than a larger 460cc headed driver. |
