Having been to see the recent Big Screen release of 'Christopher Robin', an adaptation of the Winnie The Pooh characters & storyline, I realised that's pretty much how I come up with the weekly waffle! I start with something real and fairly inanimate and then just let my imagination and inner child take over!!

Now I know you're thinking 'It's sometimes a little bit hammy like Piglet, occasionally as draining as Eeyore but typically a whole load of Pooh!'

But thankfully lately it's been a lot about Tigger!! Because Tigger`s a wonderful thing! His head is back being a Golfer! Although his bed's got a few broken springs!!

Unfortunately, this week he was busy doing nothing!

Tour News

That let the other boys come out to play! It certainly seemed that another twitchy tangerine-tinged tornado, the bouncy Brandt Snedeker, had FUN, FUN, FUN last week at the Wyndham Championship! Just watching and listening to Brandt you can tell he's a real 'frog in a blender' type personality so it was almost as if somebody had just 'Wyndham Up' and let him go last week. He`s certainly an advert for keeping your kids from overdosing on e-numbers!!!

Speaking of numbers, he came out the traps quick to become another PGA Tour Player to shoot 59 in round 1 and basically lead the event from start to finish.

This event was also the final chance for players to make it to the end of season FedEx Cup Race. For those finishing outside the Top 125 their Season was over! Surprisingly we saw Sergio Garcia fail to make the grade which was the first time in the FedEx Cup history that he's failed to make the grade!

What does this mean for Sergio`s Ryder Cup hopes? He's clearly not had a good season but he still showed reasonable form in that last event. Will he now come over and play the final few Counting Events left in Europe to prove his form and commitment to the European cause to convince Captain Bjorn he is worthy of a Wildcard?

The same might be said for a few hopefuls that might not automatically make the Cappro Cup cut! There is now only 1 Qualifying event left (September Medal next Saturday) but there is still a lot to be decided with potential ups & downs in both the Points Standings and potential Cross Divisional switches!

Competition News

One player with lots to look forward to is Clark Brechin. Not only has Clark booked his place in the Cappro Cup but he has now also earned his place in the Final of the District Champion of Champions.

This will be the 3rd time Clark has made it to the Final and he`ll be hoping to go one better than last year where he lost on the Final Hole.

His opponent is yet confirmed but the Final will be held on September 2nd at nearby Peterculter GC. I`m sure Clark would enjoy the support for anyone wanting to go along. But I`m sure you will all join me in wishing Clark the very best of luck.

Competition News

We also crowned a few Champions of our own here at Portlethen over the weekend. They won`t officially receive their Silverware until the end of Season Prize Giving, but congratulations to Dylan Smith & Mark Wallace who triumphed in the 4 Round Scratch & Handicap Championships respectively.

Dylan (74 + 80 + 70 + 77 301) won the Scratch by 9 strokes from Donald Smith (82 + 75 + 74 + 79 310) while Mark (74 + 72 + 72 + 68 286) had a closer call by leap frogging eventual Runner Up, Charlie Watson (73 + 70 + 69 + 76 288) to win by 2.

Success Stories

The eagle eyed of you spotted a fairly obvious error in the Success Stories last week! Not that there was anything factually incorrect with the details of the events, but we did use the wrong photograph of the player!! Fortunately the form of Brian Wood and the impact his newly Custom Fitted TaylorMade M4 Clubs are having on his game have given me the opportunity to not only apologise, but also to right the wrong and get the correct photograph of him in!

That`s because Brian followed up his success of last week with another excellent round on Saturday.

Brian has now seen his Handicap tumble from 15 to 12 in a matter of weeks since getting his hands on his new Driver, Fairways and Irons.

Brian actually took the time to come and thank me saying that he`s really pleased with the new Clubs, and his hitting them so well, consistently and further that even his regular playing partners have commented on the difference they see in his shots! Anything that resembles a compliment from these guys is like Unicorn droppings!!

Perhaps also worthy of mention, if only to highlight the quality of the Technology in these TaylorMade Clubs, was the Score & Performance of Mark Clubb. Mark had invested in a Set of last year`s TaylorMade M2 Irons which he liked and was playing ok with. However, some of that Model developed a recurring fault which saw the Polymer Face Slots crack or come loose. With the M2 now a defunct Model, and one of Mark Clubb`s Clubs developing that fault, TaylorMade replaced the whole set with an upgrade to this year`s M3 Model instead.

Mark had his first game with them on Wednesday and fired in 42 Stableford Points – citing a noticeable improvement in distance and control! The Clubs have certainly helped Mark ‘Up his Game!’

That`s something I`m always trying to do here! Not only ‘Up Your Games’ so you play better and enjoy more, but also ‘Up My Game’, and more importantly, Service to you. Now I can offer you a Service that in essence will help improve both!

I am launching my Online Lesson Booking Service which now means access to my Teaching & Club Fitting Diary is available 24/7 and at your fingertips.

This is very much at the ‘Soft Launch’ Stage and I will use the next few months until the end of the season to see how it works and iron out any creases that crop up. From there I will ‘Beef It Out’ a little bit with more detail, imagery and functionality.

For instance, one such function will eventually be Online Payment and Voucher Sales. But for now it will just be a Tool for you to view, choose and book the Date/Time & Session Type you require. One thing I will ask for in advance is a little bit of patience between the operating of this new Service and the fact that, with Ross leaving and no direct replacement in place yet, that some Bookings may need to be juggled. But hopefully you will all see this is even more added value to your Portlethen GC Membership.

There were a couple of people last week that clearly bought a Golden Ticket of their own as we had 2 Hole-In-One`s last week in Competition!

Brandon Simpson ‘Aced’ the 5th Hole during the Junior Eclectic last Thursday. That spurred Brandon on to a quite incredible run of golf as he covered the front 9 in 31 Strokes! 5 Under Par!

On the Saturday Stephen Campbell dunked his Tee Shot at the 12th in the Stroke Play Championship.
