Again having worked with both Finlay & Clark with Technique Advice and Equipment Fitting it gives me great satisfaction when I hear of their achievements because that`s what I believe I am here to deliver. Better Results = More Enjoyment! Looking back at some of last week`s performances I can again pick out a few people whose performances and results have peaked following Professional Advice from me. I said earlier that I`d come back to Ashley Wallace`s Medal round. Rewind a week and Ashley booked a Lesson because (In her own words) her....`Driving was terrible and I literally can`t hit it in the air or in play’ – When it`s as bad as that then the old ‘Drive for show, Putt for dough’ adage goes right out the window! Ashley`s main issue was her Grip caused her Clubface to be so Closed that when she struck the ball there was little to no loft on the Face and it was typically aiming down and to the left of the target. Once we illustrated that using both the GCQuad data and Video feedback, then made a tweak to only her right hand, the effects were instant. The next day Ashley only missed out on the Ladies Longest Drive by a Yard, the next week she had won a Medal and reduced her handicap! Instant results also went the way of Jeff Capstick who, like Ashley, came to me in despair of the state of his Putting! Again, in Jeff`s words it had gotten that bad the old ‘Drive for show, Putt for dough’ was out the window, down the path and through the gate! Similarly the issues and solutions were very obvious, very simple and easy to administer. Basically Jeff was wrestling with a putter that was WAAAAAAAYYYYY too long for him and subsequently much too upright for him. As soon as we altered the length of the Club and the Lie angle (All alterations we did in house, and to his existing equipment) he was able to adopt a more suitable and repeatable Set Up and deliver a more consistent and reliable stroke. The very next day Jeff went out in the Seniors Medal, single Putted 5 of his first 6 greens, shot 79 gross off 19 Handicap, 46 Stableford points, scooped the Sweep money that paid for his Lesson and reduced his Handicap by THREE STROKES!! He then followed that up on the Saturday by playing to his new Handicap exactly! Superb stuff! With the Season moving into its twilight now is the time to reflect on how you feel you`ve performed and take action. If you intend to play through the winter or even just keep practicing, get some worthwhile insight into what you should be focussing on. Even if you tend to put the Clubs away when the Clocks change then you still have 6 weeks to make an impact on your game so you can start next season on an improved and more prepared footing!
