Holiday Blues

"Lanzarote no more, sunshine no more, blue sky no more, when you go you don`t want to come back, I`d rather be in Las Americas! Take a look, you now need a rain mack, from the my front door to Asda!"

A little adaptation of the Proclaimers song "Letter From America!" but right now "I would walk 500 miles and I would walk 500 more!" just to get back to that holiday lifestyle! Who would get tired of stepping outside first thing in the morning to a glorious warm sun everyday! Ok, maybe a slight exaggeration…it was more like early afternoon when I surfaced but the sun was still out!

It`s funny how being on holiday makes you think that certain things you`d just never do are all of a sudden perfectly acceptable! Like standing outside what effectively is your house in only your pants as random strangers walk by! "Guten Morgan!"

Or walking round the shopping centre in a pair of swimming shorts and flip flops with (to coin a West Coast phrase) "Tapps Aff!" Especially when the people who think this is socially acceptable are the ones who have quite clearly got more than their monies worth from the "All Inclusive" But there is certainly a laid-back-ness to holiday life, or the "Manana" effect!! At one restaurant we had 7 different waiters during our meal and had to ask on 3 different occasions to 3 different waiters if we could get the bill which took close on half an hour to finally pay! And I guess it`s only in places like the Canaries that you`ll find a 24 Hour Supermarket closed at night! But everyone is so laid back and in a good mood that it`s very relaxing! Even the motion sensor in the toilet that turned the lights on seemed to be the happiest wee guy on the planet! (Check out the photo!)

But the holiday is over and I made it back in one piece! When I say one piece I mean in the same sense as a jigsaw puzzle is in one piece! The box on the outside is intact and portrays what its meant to look like but inside although everything`s there it`s essentially in bits!! But as Gloria Gaynor said "I will survive!"

She also said "Go on now, go walk out the door!" Which is what Riccardo and (soon to be) Stuart have both done as they`ve left me!! But they both will most definitely be "welcome anymore" Riccardo finished whilst I was away on Holiday to start his new position at the Mar Hall Hotel, and while Stuart will still be here for a few more weeks he will be taking up his seasonal position again at Royal Troon. I`d just like to take this opportunity to thank them both for all there help throughout their time working for me and I wish them huge success with their future careers.

 But as their chapters close here at Eastwood a new one opens for two new additions to the Eastwood Family! Next Wednesday Steven Maxwell will join the Team. Steven graduated in Business Management at the Western New Mexico University as part of his Golf Scholarship and is now about to begin his PGA Training. The following week we will be joined by another Stuart R! Stuart Roberts is a Qualified PGA Professional who will be making the move from Glenbervie Golf Club to Eastwood which will dramatically cut down Stuart`s travel time as he stays a mere stones throw away from Cathcart Castle GC where he grew up playing his junior golf in the Fleming Watson League. I`m sure as always you will make the guys feel very welcome here at Eastwood.

These new additions coincides with the new look Newsletter & Website improvements that I`ve made. I hope you like the facelift but unfortunately I`ve not been able to do anything about the quality of my content!! So whilst it looks nice and sleek you`ll still have to put up with my weekly drivel! Hopefully those of you "Techies" that use Smartphones or Tablets to view the weekly blog will like the way it fits the screens of these devices better as I try and keep improving my communication to you.

 In an effort to keep more in touch with important, immediate and isolated information I have also created a Professional Shop Facebook & Twitter feed! (Many of you knew I was already a Twit!) This week seems to be all about new starts and after this Fridays AGM we see a new Captain take the helm! Now don`t despair it might look like the Club have followed Glasgow Rangers lead and put a Crook in charge but trust me our very own Howard Crooks is whiter than white and a lot whiter than Craig White! On Sunday 9th March I will be joining Captain Crooks, his new Vice Captain (and current Club Champion) Gavin Cochrane and the possibly the most relieved man at Eastwood, Past Captain Colin Farquhar for a few holes of golf before the traditional "Captains Driving In Ceremony" which takes place at 1pm that Sunday. I hope you`ll all come along and show your support to Howard as he takes his Position Of Office. I`m sure Howard is going to have a great year in charge and continue the good work that Colin did last year.

You may remember a while back in another Newsletter I mentioned the importance of Golf Fitness in the sport these days, and that we had the opportunity to get a Certified Golf Fitness Instructor to come to Eastwood and do a Presentation & Demonstration on the subject. Following some good feedback from some of the members I`m pleased to say that we have managed to set up a night for David Curtis (Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Certified Coach) to come to Eastwood to do such a night for us.

Consultation "Performance Analysis & Overview" (2 Hour Session) - £75 
This session contains a detailed assessment of your game and your goals! Important performance data is recorded using Flightscope which alongside a comprehensive Skills Test and questionnaire allow a "Plan For Progress" to be created specifically for your game. *Anyone who takes this assessment automatically qualifies for a 10% Reduction on all future Lessons & Packages that season. 

Playing Lesson: "Take It To The Course" (2 Hour Session) - £75* 
This On Course Session focuses predominantly on your ability to manage your game and the course, mental approach, visualisation, routine, green reading, rules, etiquette and shot execution. Whilst how to play certain types of shots will be covered technique and swing changes will kept for on the Practice Range. 

Scoring Zone: "The Ultimate Shortgame Session" (2 Hour Session) - £75* 
The ideal way to make significant and lasting improvements to the one area of the game that guarantees lower scores! This session contains a detailed assessment of your Shortgame "Strengths & Weaknesses", a skills test, Computerized Putter & Stroke Analysis, Green Reading & Pace Control as well as an overview of Pitching & Bunker technique, Chipping method and shot choices.
