It`s only Tuesday and I`m sitting writing this week's blog safe in the knowledge that you probably don`t get it or read it until Friday! Friday 19th September……our 9/19 (if we were American)…..perhaps the day that Will Smith needs to start learning a `Weagie Accent!` so he can star in our own Hollyrood version of "Independence Day!" The day which means I have no idea what language you will be reading it in!! Will it be Scottish or Scots-ish!! So much like an episode of Scooby-Doo has 2 different endings, I`m going to start with 2 different beginnings! Depending on how Thursday`s Vote went you can "Delete where appropriate!!" but in many ways my 2 intros sum up what I feel I`ve been subjected to these last few weeks!!

I don't know if you can see, the changes that have come over me. In these last few days I've been afraid, that I might drift away! I've been telling old stories, singing songs that make me think about where I've come from. That's the reason why I seem so far away today!

The trouble with Scotland... is that it's full of Scots! Perhaps the time has come to reinstitute an old custom. Grant them prima noctes. First night, when any common girl inhabiting their lands is married, our nobles shall have sexual rights to her on the night of her wedding. If we can't get them out, we breed them out. That should fetch just the kind of lords we want to Scotland, taxes or no taxes.

You put your left wing in, you put your right wing out, in, out, in, out and campaign it all about! You use your hocus pocus and you schpeel and spout, coz that`s what it`s all about! OH NO THE REFERENDUM! OH NO THE REFERENDUM! OH NO THE REFERENDUM! He`s bent, Oils stretched, blah blah blah!!

To coin an extremely Scottish phrase "Help ma` boab!" I`ll just be glad that it`s all over! Then perhaps we can get back to being the fun, friendly, capable and welcoming people that the Scots have a worldwide reputation of being! Unlike the possessed, highly strung, aggressive, squabbling lot of lunatics that this Referendum has seemingly turned us into. Especially the Pocket Politicians who apparently make up the backbenches of the "Keyboards of Commons" who, not content with being the best Football Manager, Head Greenkeeper or any other expert in whichever career you care to choose, now feel the need to bombard and badger anyone who innocently accepted a Friends request on Social Media when that person seemed like a normal human being!

I say "Social Media" but I think they need to rebrand them after these last few months!! Some people were definitely using them like an "InYerFace"Book whilst most others were suffering on "GetOotMaFace"Book, whilst Twitter definitely became more Bicker, or even just Witter for those who just like the sound of their own posts!!

And what the heck happened to Voting being the right to voicing an anonymous opinion!? If I had a pound for everybody that asked me "What I`d be voting!?" then I`d probably have so much money that I`d need to move to a country where I could spend a THE POUND!!

I honestly think that because the "Who will you be voting for?" was so out in the open they should have allowed you to vote like in X Factor or I`m A Celebrity and that way we could`ve raised a shed load of money into the bargain! In fact they should`ve got Salmond & Cameron to do a Bush Tucker Trial and the person who won the most stars got to keep Scotland!!

I just hope that our beautiful country can "Calm Doon" in time to make the next major spotlight moment for Scotland, The Ryder Cup, one that WILL make the rest of the World sit up and take notice of how good our wee country really is.

It's coming round fast and this time next week it will just as much of a reality as the outcome of this vote. One person I`m guessing who is wishing he could vote again is US Ryder Cup Captain, Tom Watson. Who I`m sure is kicking himself that the likes of Billy Horschel, Chris Kirk and Ryan Palmer hadn`t showed the form they are in now 2 or 3 weeks earlier! Instead his 3 Wildcard picks are spluttering to find some form ahead of the big showdown at Gleneagles.

The Ryder Cup fever is building here at the Club and the Ladies used that as the perfect theme for a Captain v Vice Captain challenge at their "At Home" competition on Tuesday. The girls went to town as they represented either Captain Christine`s USA Team or Vice Captain Anna`s European. It was a close run thins and in the end a Tied match was a fitting and fair result.

The Ladies head to head matches seemed to be a trend for that week with both the Ladies Singles and Ladies Foursomes Finals being played. In the Singles Final on Sunday Veronique Ford edged a fantastic game on the final hole against Grace Jamieson. The Foursomes Final also went the distance as they just managed to complete the match as the gloom descended. This match saw Vice Captain Anna in action again with her partner Carol Anderson taking on the "Paterson Pair" of Mother and Daughter Beth & Laura. I think experience won through in the end with 10 time Ladies Club Champion, Beth, and Laura turning round a 2 down with 3 to play deficit to win the match on the 18th hole!

The matchplay continues this week with the eagerly anticipated Cappro Cup getting underway on Saturday.

Something else that is on this Saturday that isn`t in the fixtures is an Optional Medal. Following the positive feedback on the recent optional Sunday medals and in review of the club diary, there will be optional medals on both Saturdays and Sundays from now until Sunday October 19th. Thursday medals will also be extended by 2 weeks until Thursday 16th October. This leads us nicely into the commencement of the winter programme on Monday October 20th.

Members wishing to compete in these medal rounds MUST indicate their intention to do so, in the Professional shop prior to teeing off.

The sweep and magic 2's will be available to enter if you choose. The number of divisions will be determined retrospectively depending upon numbers entered in each competition.

These Medal rounds are optional on the day and tee times can be booked as per the CLUB online booking system or via the pro shop. Casual play is permitted on these days as normal.

Normal medal rules apply e.g. 2 or 3 balls only.

Saturdays will take a strokeplay format. Sundays will take a stableford format.

Please note the October monthly Medal will be remain as planned and should be entered in the usual way through either howdidido or the club computer.

Revised Competition Dates:

Thursday Medals: - September 18th & 25th. October 2nd, 9th & 16th
October Monthly medal: - October 4th
Optional Saturday Medals: - September 20th & 27th. October 11th & 18th
Optional Sunday Stableford: - September 21st & 28th. October 5th, 12th & 19th.

Last Saturday was also a Stableford Medal which produced so excellent scores and is clearly a format that people are more comfortable with. I noticed that in DIV 1(0-10) the majority of players all scored 32 points or better (39 being the best) which meant they only missed their buffer by a couple of points! Normally on a strokeplay competition the spread of scores low to high is considerable. It was a family affair in Div 1 with Callum, Frank and Uncle Malcolm Taggart all posting 39 Points! Callum is ineligible for Sweep so the family hatrick was split only by Vice Captain Gavin Cochrane who took 1st in the Sweep. That left Frank Taggart in 2nd and Malcolm Taggart in 3rd.

Div 2 saw Paul Deuchar (43 Points) top score and take top spot, but only on the countback from Gavin Cross (43 points) with Derek McWilliam (42 Points) in 3rd. It was another 42 Points that clinched Div 3, this time it was Darrin Kirk doing the damage much to the displeasure of his Foursomes partner as they had tomplay the final on the Sunday with Darrin some 2 strokes lower in handicap!! David Flower (41 Points) edged out Tom Collins (41 points) to complete the Div 3 Sweep. 
 
   
  
  

Thursday also saw some remarkable scoring! Div 1 was won a t a canter by John Hopkins 76(14) - 62. That left Robbie Sutherland 72(6) - 66 to settle for 2nd with his good score while Colin McMurtrie 77(9) - 67 took 3rd.

Div 2 saw new Member Craig Osborne 83(16) - 67 win his first Eastwood Medal with Dougie Jamieson 87(19) - 68 2nd and Tony MacPherson 88(19) - 69 3rd. 





  

With the season`s end fast approaching there is the usual scramble to get all the Matchplay Finals played. Sunday saw the conclusion of the Tom Davidson Foursomes which saw current Winter League Champs, Darrin Kirk & doug Buchan, looking to do the unprecedented Doubles Double! Standing in their way was Liam McAllister & Gordon Hamilton. Liam, who also made it to the final of the Cronies Singles Knockout, was hoping lightening wouldn`t strike twice this time! A keenly contested final went the way of Messers McAllister & Hamilton probably helped largely by Darrin`s untimely 2 shot handicap cut on the Saturday!

My end of Season Clearance is to allow me to freshen things up for the Winter Season and the build up to Christmas. However my attention has already turned to next year. Ronnie has recently come back to the game that he merely dabbled with when he was a boy. But he quickly became frustrated with his lack of quality and consistency. He would regularly lose the ball wildly to the right (especially with the driver) and his ball striking was erratic with the more than occasional shank!
