Ever had that feeling when you know you`ve been mugged off!? I`ve been so excited about the release of the new Avengers Movie but with being so busy I forgot to book Tickets (....who am I trying to kid!......I forgot to book A TICKET!) and all the weekend showings at the Big Cinemas were fully booked! However I did manage to find a wee back alley Picture House that advertised it was showing `The Avengers’ – But when I settled into the slightly sunken, chewing gum sequined, red velvet seat, instead of Iron Man & Black Widow all I got was piggin John Steed in his poncey Bowler Hat and Emma Peel!
|
And if that wasn`t bad enough when I left the Cinema into the back alley I got attacked by a big Viking looking guy who whacked me in the head with a hammer! Some joker passing by sarcastically asked me if it was Thor!? I curtly told him NO, it was bloody agony! Yes, with Earth`s Mightiest Hero`s hitting the Big Screen in their much anticipated ‘Endgame’ Film it looks like the whole world tuned in to see how they got on against Thanos (who’s name incidentally is the same as Miguel Angel Jimenez trying to say Famous!) with Box Office takings topping $1.2 BILLION Dollars in a weekend! No doubt these Cinemas would`ve made something similar in Confectionary Sales. And let`s be honest, $1.2 Billion Dollars at an Odeon would probably stretch to at least 6 Large Cokes, 3 Tubs of Popcorn and a Bag of Pick`n`Mix!

But while Iron Man was Top Billing at the Box Office, Rahmbo was taking top spot on the PGA Tour. Jon Rahm alongside partner, Ryan Palmer, were winners of the Zurich Classic Team Championship. Their 26 Under Par total after 2 Best Ball & 2 Foursome Rounds was good enough for a 3 Stroke victory over the all European Pairing of Garcia & Fleetwood. There was actually 4 European Players in the Top 3 Teams when you include Rory Sabbatini from Slovakia, because there`s nothing more Slovakian than a South African with an American Accent living in the US!! There wasn`t any Slovakians playing on the European Tour in Morocco last weekend, but there clearly were plenty of people playing Slow! Something which irked Eduardo Molinari enough for him to be the first Tour Player to go as far as Naming & Shaming many of his fellow Tour Players by publishing the list of those Golfers given bad timings during the Tournament. What do you think? Was this a case of ‘About Time?’ Someone who definitely got off to a fast start was Fifer, Connor Syme, who clinched his maiden Professional and Challenge Tour Victory with a Playoff Win in the Turkish Airlines Challenge. And with Grant Forrest posting a Top 6 Finish at the Trophy Hassan II event it`s been another encouraging week for Scottish Golf.

Here at DGC we had our very own Grant outshine the achievements of both Messrs Forrest & Syme when Grant Sutherland notched Back-To-Back Trophy Wins! After scooping the Lyle & Scott Salver last Sunday I endeavoured to get an up to date Photo of Grant to put in the Newsletter. I caught him just before he Tee`d off on Wednesday`s Mid-week Competition and said that that photo would be in last week`s Newsletter, but no sooner had I taken his pic the Newsletter for that week pinged in to my Inbox! So I said to Grant, ‘You`ll just need to win today so I can use your photo next week!’...........and he did just that! Despite chopping his handicap by 3 strokes on the Saturday, Grant still posted a fantastic Nett 67 to add the Callaway Cup to his Trophy haul.

There was more Silverware up for grabs on Sunday in the shape of the Salisbury Cup (Division A) and the Haggart Trophy (Division B) These were won by Graham Markey and Graeme Ogilvie respectively. It was double delight for Graeme O as he also secured a place in the Staysure Regional Final where he will join me in a Pro-Am format Qualifier with the Top pairing going on to compete in the Grand Final at the London Club in late July.

The next Qualifying event is Sunday 19th May and there are also 8 more events to go, so still masses of time to Qualify and more importantly to get Signed Up! Trust me, this is a great event to be involved in. |
Something else to get involved in, but has perhaps crept up on us all, is my USPGA Sweepstake. The new May Date for what was always known as the 4th Major, means we only have 2 Weeks to go. With that in mind I am offering the following incentive to help fill the Sheet. £5 Per Square or 3 For £10 The Sheet is available in the Professional Shop now.

Wednesday Medal Initiative |
Now that the Season is underway, and I am getting a feel for the way Competitions run here at Duddingston and I wanted to let you know about an initiative that the Professional Shop would like to run that will hopefully benefit all the Members who play in the Midweek Wednesday Competitions – Especially those who don`t have a regular Group to play in! As the Wednesday Medals Times are basically booked like any other ‘Casual Play’ time it is very difficult to know who is and isn`t playing in the Competition. This becomes a problem for single players trying to get a game. So we are going to launch and monitor a ‘Wednesday Medal WhatsApp Group’ – Everyone and anyone is entitled to Sign Up to it, and anybody who is either a Single Player or a 2-Ball can post that they are looking to play at a certain time or have a space available at a certain time. Then hopefully these people can exchange dialogue and book their own times (Or we would book for them after being instructed). If this is something you`d like to be included in simply reply here – Click Here – and leave details of your Name and Mobile Phone Number and we will add you to the Group.

If you haven't already taken advantage of our Battery Trade-In, you don't have long left to do so. If your electric trolley battery is struggling to complete 18 holes or is not charging quite how it used to, consider upgrading to Lithium in 2019. Alternatively, if you don't know whether yours needs replacing, bring it in-store and we'll check it out for you.

Be honest, how much thought do you put into the golf ball that you play? Probably not as much you do your clubs but considering the ball is in play on every single shot, using any old thing that you find at the bottom of your bag could be leaving you paddling uphill. |
| Which Titleist ball to play? |
|
The first question to ask is: What do you want from your ball? Obviously, getting the thing in the hole in as few shots as possible is the ultimate goal, but there are many paths to getting there. There are balls that offer impressive distance, such as the Titleist Velocity, whilst others that provide incredible feel, such as DT TruSoft. But if you are looking for total performance without sacrificing on any one element, Titleist's Pro V1, Pro V1x and AVX balls are truly phenomenal. With subtle differences between each, this is where having a chat with a member of our PGA qualified team will have you leaving with the best ball for your game - what will yours be? |
