The other fun fact I like about Bob MacIntyre is that despite being naturally Right Handed he plays Left Handed because he also grew up playing Shinty – Which, a lot like Ice Hockey, would see the Players putting their dominant Hand at the Top of the Stick – whereas in golf we tend to put our dominant hand as the lower hand. But here`s the interesting thing – The golf ball has no idea what way round are hands are, or even if we are indeed playing Left or Right Handed!! All it does is react to the influences put on it at the moment of impact! It`s that point that I want to speak about this week and also give you a few examples from Lessons & Fittings I carried out last week. Impact, and the Journey ‘To & Thru’ Impact is the important element of anyone`s golf swing. To understand what you`ve done to make the ball go where it goes you have to be able to measure all the factors that contribute to Impact. Time and again I see Golfers introducing ‘Compensations’ into their Golf Swing as a ‘Reaction’ to what the Ball has done that they interpret as a ‘Solution.’ Using my Foresight GCQuad Launch Monitor I was able to significantly help the Golfers in these following examples because I was able to show and explain exactly what was creating and causing their issues. This meant the Golfer understood better and more quickly, but in all 3 cases one of the biggest factors to their inconsistencies with Strike – and therefore distance and direction – was nothing to do initially with their Technique! In all 3 cases ‘Heavy & Left’ were the typical miss. Loss of distance and poor strike were the common symptoms. As you can see from the Images below (This is some snapshots of the type of detail & data we are able to capture using our state of the art analysis equipment) all 3 players were striking the ball with a ‘Delivered Lie Angle’ (EG: the angle the sole of the club is to the ground at impact – ground level is measured as ZERO) that was in excess of 3 Degrees TOO UPRIGHT.
