I think my Golf Clubs are caught somewhere between Homosexuality and Agoraphobia! When they finally decide to ‘Come Out’ they soon realise that being outdoors on a Golf Course is scary and no fun, so retreat back inside to hide for several months! Or maybe it`s something to do with the incompetence of their ‘handler’ on the rubberised end!?

Yes, myself, my ‘spanners’ and 3 DGC Members (Barry Sutherland, Derek Bell & Dorian Wiszniewski) went on a little road trip on Sunday & Monday when we set off for a ‘Trip To Trump’ in Aberdeen. We were playing in the Trump International Pro`s Day on the Monday so decided to take advantage of, and a round in at our fellow 1895 reciprocal Club – Edzell – on the journey up on Sunday.
|
The facts are that my Pairing on Sunday got a Half Match and my Team on Monday Tied 1st out of 15 to win a return trip for an Overnight Stay, Breakfast & Round of Golf at Trump. The reality is if the standard of my Golf had been anywhere close to acceptable I may very well have been on the outright winning side on both occasions! But I`ve got the Winter to stew on my temperamental technique and my 'bog roll’ thin belief! |

The most important thing was that the guys enjoyed their 2 days and the golfing experience that came with it. The fact that we came home with a good prize was a ‘Brucey Bonus’ – And thankfully it was Points That Make Prizes because we definitely needed to take advantage of the Stableford Format of scoring! As we coughed up a few holes where none or only 1 Player posted a counting score!
I`ve been fortunate enough to play Trump International a few times now, and it`s definitely a course you should all try and tick off your list of ‘Places I`d Like To Play’ – Love him or loathe him there`s no denying that DT can certainly find the right people to set up and present a golf course. Trump Int. is stunning, the changes/improvements to Trump Turnberry are reportedly awesome and all his other courses worldwide are held in really high regard. |

Now while I appreciate that it costs a pretty penny to experience these courses, I would really encourage you to take advantage of the privilege that being a Duddingston Golf Club Member affords you in the form of the 1895 Club reciprocal arrangement. Edzell was an absolute treat and in great shape for the time of year. There are 48 affiliated Clubs Worldwide and some crackers right here in Scotland.
I`ve heard that the 3 Northern Irish Courses in and around Belfast are also great (along with the local hospitality) and I am planning to arrange an Anniversary Trip over there next year to help celebrate and commemorate the Clubs 125th Birthday.
I`m canvassing for some feedback as to how popular this might be amongst the Members and have already had dialogue with the Clubs in question to make sure this is something they would be happy to entertain (which they all are!) If this is something you might be interested in I`d be delighted to hear from you – Click Here – and let me know your preferred option (IE – Midweek or Weekend / Early, Mid or Late Season) and I`ll start to compile these notes of interest. It may be that we can do more than 1 trip at different times of the Year!?

It`s not often that there are comparisons between my Golfing narrative and that of Tiger Woods but last week we both travelled to play somewhere new and finished on Monday surprisingly collecting a Prize – But I think I`m correct in saying Tiger wasn`t playing in a Stableford Team Event!?
Nope, instead, he was doing what he`s done his whole career – Breaking Records & Setting Standards!
The PGA Tour went on tour visiting Japan for the first playing of the Zozo Championship. To say Tiger Woods was the main attraction would be a massive understatement. The Japanese crowds flocked to see their hero and I think now many of the younger Tour Players are starting to witness just how huge a phenomenon Tiger is, and the impact he has had on the game that they earn a living from.

But Tiger wasn`t just there as a sideshow – He was there to compete, he was there to WIN! And he once again proved, over a stellar field, that when on form he is still one of the games very best. His opening 64 was the lowest 1st round in his Tour history! It set him up to lead from Wire-To-Wire, and in doing so landed his 82nd PGA Tour Title. This tied him with Sam Snead who set that record way back in 1965 – Slammin Sam notched an impressive 7 Majors, Tiger has more than double that! The Golden Bear, Jack Nicklaus managed 73 PGA Tour Wins in his career, and of the era still playing on the PGA Tour Phil Mickelson is next closest to Tiger with 44! It`ll be really interesting to see how Tiger fairs next Season. He`ll definitely want to get to 83 to claim that record outright, and I`m pretty confident he believes he can still hunt down Jack`s ’18 Majors’ Record too!
Goals in Golf are all very personal, and I think that`s the beauty of our game in that achieving success is completely different for every single player. Granted, Winning is Winning but just look at the polar ends of the spectrum this weekend. In Japan we had the games greatest player winning to re-write the history books, whilst at the same time in Portugal, there were players putting in performances that their short term career depended on. Steve Brown won his 1st ever Tour Title on a week where he needed his seasons best finish to retain his playing rights for next Season. Now, like Nicolas Colsaerts last week, he is exempt until 2021. Justin Walters also entered the week needing a good finish – He also posted his best placing of the year with a Tied 2nd!

It was all about the winners last Friday night too when the Duddingston hosted it`s Annual Presentation of Prizes. It was my first time attending and I had a great night. Nice to be able to meet a lot of the Members socially, and even better seeing everyone have a good time, especially those collecting silverware.
Whilst I mentioned ‘Goal Setting’ earlier some Members might measure the success of their Season differently. Whether that be lowering their handicap, or just seeing noticeable (and more enjoyable) improvements in their game. But I`d imagine for an Amateur there is something very rewarding about being able to collect and have your name forever etched into the history of a Trophy! Well done everyone. And good luck to you all for next year. |

In 2018, only January saw more rainfall in the UK than November. Not the happiest of stats to highlight, but one that shows the inevitability of being caught in a few downpours this month, making a waterproof and spacious bag vital if you want to tackle the unpredictable British weather. |
| Titleist Players 4 Plus StaDry Stand Bag | The name of this lightweight bag says all you need to know when it comes to its waterproof ability. Add in seam-sealed zippers to protect your personal belongings and six spacious pockets, and we think you'll be hard-pressed finding a better option.
|
| Titleist StaDry Cart Bag | Its big brother equivalent has the same waterproof fabric but in a more spacious cart option. We know plenty of you enjoy using an electric trolley out on the course, and we think this might well be the perfect bag to go with it. |
