After the shocking events on London Bridge this week (I had a friend who had just crossed that bridge 10 minutes before the attack) it seems all our bumbling Government hopefuls can do is use the terrible incident to bicker with one another and posture towards the public! Rather than act like Leaders and deal with matters (for the sake of those involved and the safety of our people) swiftly, tactfully and correctly! But instead, it’s an even bigger popularity charade than I’m A Celeb!

‘Welcome To The Jungle’ - maybe that should be their Party Slogan!? What I do find fascinating is the current Government trying to convince Voters to Vote for them by ‘pledging’ to do this and that if kept in Government. Surely their campaign should be based entirely on ‘look at all the good we`ve done and will continue to do if kept in position!’ – It`s a bit like a Football Manager whos being touted for the Sack saying ‘if you keep me I`ll get the Team playing great football and winning matches’……well why are you not already doing it!?

And as for these Manifestos I keep hearing about! I thought they were a chain of questionable Gents Clothing Shops!? Great if you wanted to look like East 17!

Tour News

It was Fashion that grabbed most of the Golfing Headlines this weekend too.

Down in Leotard Creek... I mean Leopard Creek, there was a short decision that`s been a long time coming. The Alfred Dunhill Championship 2019 will always be remembered as the landmark event where the European Tour allowed the Tour Players to compete in Shorts for the very first time ever (pretty safe to say that there wasn`t any of the Pros clambering to wear shorts at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship here in Bonnie Scotland this past October!?) I must admit it did look a little strange on the coverage and almost had to keep reminding myself I wasn`t watching celebs playing holiday Pro-Am golf!

Interestingly not all players switched to laying in shorts, and I`m sure many are like me in that the last thing they want to see when looking down at their golf ball is their own pipe cleaner pins staring back! With these guys exposed to so much sun, I`m surprised they are not wanting to cover up more not less. It`s interesting that many of the Ladies now wear ‘Sun Sleeves’ and leggings as protection against the UV Rays.

It wasn`t just the temperature that was hot over the weekend either. The final day action got exciting by way of the overnight leader setting somewhat of a ‘Blistering’ pace to start his round. Pablo Larrazabal almost withdrew from the event despite leading after 3 rounds. He had amassed a 3 Stroke lead but also some massive, and painful, foot blisters from which he virtually couldn`t get a shoe on and was in incredible pain whilst walking – not the best advertisement for his Shoe Sponsors! He decided to play but was soon perhaps ruing that decision when he got off to a horror start. Through 13 holes he had racked up 6 Bogies and a Double-Bogey sprinkled with a few pars and a lone birdie. By this time the chasing pack had by-passed him. Only he can tell you where his inspiration came from (perhaps he had to reach down deep into his ‘Sole’!?) but somehow he managed to put his best foot forward and post 4 birdies, the last of which came on the 72nd hole and was good enough to pull clear and win on 8 Under Par.

And interestingly enough, Pablo was wearing full length trousers but still managed to keep his cool!

Competition News

There was definitely no problem keeping your cool last Sunday in the second of our Winter Team Events which saw weekend Temperatures plummet to as low as -4!

This meant the course was, as white as my legs, as hard as Pablo Larrazabal`s resolve and as short and tricky as Paul Daniels in his prime – and as I said to everyone that braved the elements to play ‘You`ll like it... not a lot.... but you`ll like it!’

4 that I`m sure did enjoy it was the winning quartet of Bill Lothian, Robin Graham, David Cotterill and Cliff Lightband who scored an impressive 119 Betterball.

Festive Fun – Upcoming Events

We have decided to put on some more Team and Individual Events to keep you occupied over the Festive Period. Hopefully you have read about them in the Club Newsletter but I just wanted to remind you again. Firstly, apologies for the wrong Dates initially stated – I had been looking at last month`s Dates! Miss November in the Pirelli Calendar had grabbed my attention!

Moving on, we have come up with 2 On Course Events and 3 Indoor SW:ING Studio Events. These are open to all Members and their Guests who are looking for a little fresh air and escape from the Christmas Cabin Fever!

How times have changed
