I thought this week I`d cover a ‘Touchy’ subject – a Sand touchy subject! You could say it makes for an uncomfortable Reed! |
For those of you unaware, the latest controversy in the world of golf came in the Hero World Challenge played in the sandy paradise of the Bahamas. The course had many scrub/waste areas which were technically sand but were not classed as Bunkers, and with it being Pantomime Season it was only right that along came the villain of the piece! |
Enter Stage Right – Patrick Reed. The third round Leader found himself in one of these scrub areas, with his ball nestled down in the sand and a TV Camera so close to his backside you`d have thought he was getting an endoscopy, he inexplicably used his practice swing to sweep the mound of sand behind his ball away – TWICE!
Oh no he didn`t!? Oh yes he did! |

Hopefully, most golfers know that you are not allowed to improve the lie or intended area of swing at any time, that ‘most’ does not however seem to include Patrick Reed! Apparently he was unaware of what he did so after his misdemeanour was pointed out to him by the Rules Officials and he was penalised for it he then consulted his advisors before addressing the Media. That advisory panel was clearly made up of Prince Andrew, Bill Clinton, 90`s Rapper Shaggy, Lance Armstrong and OJ Simpson!
He was adamant that it was an unintentional breach of the Rules and perhaps the fact that following his 2 Stroke Penalty he ended up losing out to Henrik Stenson by 2 Strokes there was an element of justice served, but the fallout on social media and opinion by many of his peers would suggest that not many believe that he didn`t know what he was doing at the time.
It also feels a little off or rubbing salt into the wound when you hear Tiger Woods essentially defending Reed`s actions as ‘unintentional’. Given Tigers well documented ahem, ‘previous’ I think it`s fair to say both these guys sing from the ‘It`s Only Cheating When You Get Caught!’ Hymn Sheet! Who are they going to interview next? Ben Johnson? Steve Smith? Maradona!?
And on the eve of the Presidents Cup Donald Trump was asked for his opinion on the matter. Donald said; ‘I don`t think he touched the sand at all, in fact, there was no sand, CBS coverage have created Fake Sand and I believe there was collusion with the Russians! And in any case, the Bahamas isn`t even a place – it`s the Family that moved out of the White House before I moved in!’

With the home weather throwing everything at as just now it`s no surprise that the world's golfers seek out the nicest places to play. Not to be outdone by the Boys In The Bahamas, the European Tour headed to Mauritius. Whilst it perhaps wasn`t the strongest field ever assembled for a European tour Event, these early Season Tournaments allow the newest recruits to the Tour a chance to find their feet, and more importantly, make some necessary money before the big boys arrive back on the scene!
It was a good showing from the Scots lads with 5 Players inside the Top 50, with the top performers being Callum Hill (17th) who might be a little disappointed having lead through 3 Rounds, Connor Syme (9th) his second Top 12 in a fortnight and Grant Forrest (4th) who finished 1 stroke out of the Playoff.
That Playoff saw the trio of Italian, Renato Paratore, Frenchman, Antoine Rozner and Dane, Rasmus Hojgaard all tie on 19 Under Par. Clearly this victory was made in Denmark as 18-Year-old Hojgaard announced his arrival on the professional scene with a bang! Little over a year ago Rasmus, who has an identical Twin, was playing in the Junior Ryder Cup Match. Now he is a Tour winner with a 2-year Playing exemption. Based on his performance last week he looks the real deal with all the attributes to make it in the modern game – Long, accurate, fearless, with a competent Short Game and Putting confidence.
As for the Scots, hopefully, this crop has all been inspired and buoyed by the season Bob McIntyre has just had and will collectively kick on!?

Similarly to our Instruction offering, having the Knowledge, Experience & Facilities is huge. But we add to that an element that not many other Green Grass outlets can, and certainly one that Off Course Stores and the Internet most definitely can`t.
Every piece of equipment you need in your Bag needs to be Fitted and Road Tested. Every piece of Equipment in or Store & Studio is there to be Fitted & Road Tested before any commitment to purchase is made. As a consequence, we are under no pressure to sell these Clubs. So unless we can prove it will enhance your game over the equipment you already have, then we simply won`t!

Our Fitted Drivers you can trial on the Course YOU play! Our Wedges are there to get dirty and sandy (but not to improve your Lie like Patrick!) on YOUR Practice Area or Course! And our Putters are there to be trialled on the Greens YOU Putt on. |
