When it comes to your own golfing fortunes it`s never too late to change. – And I had a Club Fitting this week that proves you can teach an Old Dog new tricks…or by giving an Old Dog new toys they learn new tricks!? It`s not every day that you get a 92 Year Old Golfer wanting to upgrade their Equipment but this particular Member was getting treated to new Irons for his Christmas. And by doing what we do, we were able to prove and improve how new and MORE APPROPRIATELY Fitted Clubs can have a huge influence on playing better Golf. So, again using the Technology at hand in our SW:ING Studio, we evaluated and detailed that performance of the Golfers current Equipment. Here are some of the important details we charted:
Golfers Current Clubs PING G10 Irons – Regular Graphite – Standard Length & Lie Typical Bad Shot – Low Pull/Hook left.
Findings with 7 Iron: Average Clubhead Speed – 60mph Average Ball Speed – 80mph Strike Location – Heel Delivered Lie Angle – 4* Too Upright Average Carry – 108 Yards Average Dispersion – 12 Yards Left Best Total Distance – 120 (however this was 16 Yards offline left)
After trying 2 Shaft Length & Flex options in a PING G410 3* Flatter Head here is what we were able to achieve.
Fitted Clubs
Findings with 7 Iron: Average Clubhead Speed – 62mph Average Ball Speed – 84mph Strike Location – Centre Delivered Lie Angle – 1* Too Upright Average Carry – 118 Yards Average Dispersion – 7 Yards Right Best Total Distance – 131 (2 Yards offline right) To gain someone with that Clubhead Speed approximately 10 Yards of Distance is substantial. But to also improve the shot shape and accuracy so noticeably is huge. The next step was to concentrate on ‘Set Makeup’ – The Golfer was keen to keep his 4 & 5 Iron. But again, through detailed feedback from our Foresight GCQuad Launch Monitor we were able to illustrate that even the very best 4 Iron did not carry further than the new 7 Iron could! So we explored a high lofted Hybrid – The improvement was instant and significantly noticeable. So instead of a 4 Iron that could only fly 114 Yards and roll to 128 Yards, we had a #5 Hybrid(26*) that could carry 140+ Yards and roll 150+. This, in essence, meant we had reduced the number of Clubs in the Set but increased the over achievable distance! So, whilst I`m sure you will have enough to chew on over the Festive Period I thought I`d share this to give you some food for thought as to where you can take your game next Season.
