Hands up anyone else who's losing faith in the Human Race!? Especially the Cyber Community! I've just spent the best part of the last Year being badgered by people's Political pontificating! Rewind to Indy Ref and it was a whole other ocean of opinion! ......good job I wasn't swayed one way or another by their self-indulged rhetoric, because now many of these same people are getting giddy and bombarding the Social Media Streams following the return of LOVE ISLAND!

Give me strength!!! To be fair it's probably not a lot different to a General Election Campaign! All the 'Candidates' are trying to do is look good in the eyes of the Public, say what other people want them to say at the right time, be controversial but oppose controversy and hope the gullible vote for them! I'm sure some posh blonde-haired buffoon will win this one too! There was at least one couple that managed to get off this Island! Harry & Meghan Hewitt did what any UK-American Couple would do...... moved to Canada! It's kinda the best of both! Maybe that will be Nicola Sturgeons next tactic!? Get Scotland into an arranged marriage with another Country then just say 'Ta-Ta', because it seems we are going nowhere otherwise following this week`s Love Letter from Big Bad Boris.

The whole scenario sounds so familiar! I'm sure we've all had a similar experience with our 'Better Half' - you're at a Party that you'd hoped to leave after a few hours, but they say no 'you're staying'...... so you begrudgingly stay, have a few drinks, turns out the craics pretty good, everyone's getting along, you share a few more drinks, the dancing starts, you're having a good time......... then there it is! The face of thunder!! 'We're LEAVING!!'....... 'no, I'm ok now I'm happy to stay'...... 'I'm LEAVING NOW.... and YOU'RE COMING TOO!..... this isn't up for discussion!'
......so you down as much of your drink as you can, roll your eyes and gesture to the whole room that you're being made to leave under duress, grab your coat, and don't speak to them for 3 days! |
Relations were a bit stormy on another island last weekend when the PGA Tour stopped off in Honolulu for the Sony Open. I'm pretty sure the Players schedule this Tournament in as a bit of a Busmans Holiday on the Hawaiian Island but conditions this week were far from Paradisiacal! Strong Gale-force Winds and driving rain battered the Course and the Players for parts of the event – It was basically Strom Brendan with a Hula Skirt and Lei Flower Garland! It was therefore quite fitting that the winner was someone who right now is all too aware of battling against tough conditions. – Auzzie Cameron Smith won the Sony Open and immediately dedicate both the accomplishment and a huge chunk of the winnings to the relief fund as his Home Country, Australia continues to battle the devastating Fires that have ravaged large areas of the mainland. The European Tour headed to the Southern Hemisphere as they staged the South African Open, and I`m sure Tournament Organisers couldn`t have wished for a better climax. Arguably South Africa`s Top 2 Golfers were battling it out for the Title coming down the stretch. Tournament Host, Louis Oosthuizen, did a remarkable job of juggling his hosting duties and playing as he was just as impressive on the course as he was off it and hovered around the top of the Leaderboard for the first 3 days. Leading going into the final round he carded a 3 Under Par 68, which included a Hole-In-One at the 10th Hole, you might have thought that would be enough to secure the Title! However, Brandon Grace had other ideas, as did his Putter! Between them, they managed to conjure up a closing 62 thanks largely to a meagre 22 Putts! 22 Putts! I think the last time I ‘only’ had 22 Putts I was walking on to the 12th Tee!

There`s no question that the little short stick is perhaps the most important Club in your Bag. It`s a Club that really should ‘Fit You’ the best of all your Clubs, the one you should understand what it`s designed to do, and the area of the Game that you focus on the most. But as we all know – it isn`t, and we don`t! Perhaps this Season is the Year to change that!? But that`s just the thing. This is the time of year we should be focussing on the parts of our game that will make us better, score lower and enjoy our rounds more. However, we are restricted in what we can do to improve our Putting & Short Game in general, because of Playing Conditions, Weather and Daylight! So what we tend to do (other than give up and go into Hibernation completely!), is focus on our Long Game at either the Driving Ranges or out on the Course in the aforementioned ‘far from ideal’ Playing Conditions. So, like previous weeks, I just want to remind and encourage you to embrace the fantastic Learning & Playing Facility we have created for you right here at Duddingston GC. With the weather poor over the weekend we have more Groups take advantage of the ‘Simulated Play’ that our SW:ING Studio can provide and the guys all had a fantastic time. What`s more, the Facility is pretty much there for whenever suits you as we can open on Midweek Evenings too. ‘Anytime, Any Weather, Any Daylight’
|
One thing the Studio is the ideal place for, and that is for Trialling and Fitting of all the fantastic new Equipment that is hitting the Market Place now. And as usual, it is the Drivers especially that grab the spotlight. The usual Heavyweights go head to head with the early Season Launches. TaylorMade has just released their new Range, while Callaway has added to theirs. For the first time in a while, TaylorMade has moved away from their M-Series which typically featured 2 numerical Models. Now they have consolidated into 1 model with 3 ‘Head-Styles’. Their SIM Range (Shape In Motion) has focussed much more on the ‘In Swing’ Aerodynamics this time, whilst also packing in all their previous successful Technology (Carbon Crown & Injected Twist Face) The improved ‘Flow Lines’ of the Head-Shape allow for better Pre-Swing Alignment and increased In-Swing stability with reduced air resistance. Meaning you can point it easier, swing it faster and deliver it squarer! |
Early Testing and Feedback from myself and other Fitters certainly suggests that TaylorMade has improved shot performance. In my case (and even as rusty as my game is just now) I saw a noticeable difference in my Ball Speed, Launch Angle & Spin Rate compared to last year`s M5 Driver. And it`s important to note – This was Same Shaft, Same Loft, Same Settings, and I saw gain. But you`ll only ‘Potentially’ see gain if you get ANY of the latest new Product Expertly Fitted to your Swing Characteristics and Tendencies. Just picking a new driver off the shelf and expecting it to be better is misguided. If you were eagle-eyed enough whilst watching some of the weekends Golf Coverage you would`ve spotted some of the Tour Players already had SIM in their Bags already. |
|
Similarly, Callaway is hoping their new Club Range will ‘Take Off’ too! For the 90`s Film geeks out there, they have just launched the ‘MAVRIK’ Range in the hope that people will choose that to be their Top Gun!
This will sit alongside the incredibly successful Epic Flash Range for now.
And it`s a similar message to TaylorMade. Companies have now pushed Face-Thickness to the Legal Limit so they are now having to push the boundaries of the other elements to their limits. Callaway, with their ‘Jail-Break’ and ‘Flash Face’ features, have maxed out what they can do to the Face so like TaylorMade they are focussing now on the Clubhead Aerodynamics. Callaway has designed and developed their Cyclone Head shape which has helped reduced ‘Drag’ – so if nothing else you`ll see less men Dressed as Women using them!

But all Companies like to ‘Talk the Talk’ – the only real way to know if their Marketing Claims are true..... is to try it! But try it having been ASSESSED & FITTED into the most suitable Version of that Product. That`s exactly what we are here for. So why not Book your Trial/Fitting Today and see if there really is something better out there for you. And remember, if it`s not I will tell you, if it is I`ll be able to show you! It’s safe to say that the technology embedded into today’s clubs has helped us hit the ball further without swinging any harder. For some that might mean hitting the ball as far as we did before the effects of ageing started to take place, whereas for others it means booming drives 300+ yards and reaching par-5s in two. |
Just imagine... If you hit every club in your bag five to ten yards further, your tee shots will be longer and you'll have less distance remaining to the green. So, rather than standing there with a 6-iron you might now have an 8-iron in your hand, which gives you a much better chance of hitting it close.
|
We can help you! This can be the reality for a lot of club golfers today, but only if you make sure your clubs are right for your swing. With lots of new products hitting the shelves in the coming weeks, now's the perfect time to try out a few different options and see if we can make a difference to your game. |
