PGA Tour Golf returned to the moon this week! Ok, well maybe it wasn`t the moon but events at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas certainly didn`t have any atmosphere. The Charles Schwab Challenge was the first Post-Lockdown Tour Event to be played with no Fans in attendance which I`m sure was a more surreal environment for the Players than us punters sitting at home!? One positive from an armchair spectators perspective was we didn`t have to put up with the pointless ‘shout outs’ from the American Fans.....although with the distance that Bryson De Chambeau is now hitting it, a cry of ‘Get In The Hole’ when a Player Drives off on a Par 4 maybe isn`t so ludicrous now? Yes, ‘The Scientist’ came out of Lockdown like a lot of us have, needing bigger clothes and a padlock for the Kitchen Door! But Bryson`s 40lb weight gain wasn`t all down to overeating. He has been apparently weight training 3 times a day to pile on the power so now he has the Cap like Ben Hogan and the Body like Hulk Hogan! And if it wasn`t obvious by his appearance, that power is hard not to miss when you see his Driving Stats now! Last week he Averaged close to 345 Yards off the Tee and was pretty accurate with that length too. This lead to one of his rounds giving him and Average 2nd shot distance of a mere 116 Yards! With those kinds of numbers and some decent putting stats too, it goes without saying that Bryson was a contender coming down the stretch. But ultimately De Chambeau had to settle for a 3rd Place finish, just missing out on a spot in the Playoff. Thankfully for the game of Golf, and society of ‘Normal’ human-beings, the Playoff featured probably one of the smaller guys on Tour. Collin Morikawa, standing at 5’9” and 12 Stone compared to Bryson`s bulging 6’1” and 17 Stone, looked to be in complete control of the event throughout the final round, but a fantastic and unlikely birdie by Daniel Berger on the 72nd Hole meant the first Post-Lockdown event went to Sudden Death. |
